Today in History (January 26, 1779)
After the British captured Savannah, a group of Georgia Patriots gathered at the Burke County Jail to hold a council of war and plan their next steps. Soon afterward, they clashed with Loyalist forces along the banks of McIntosh Creek. Though this was a small backcountry fight, it showed that Patriot resistance in Georgia continued even under British occupation.
